RAWALPINDI: The prison cell of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, has been extended in Adiala Jail as ordered by a special court formed under the Special Secrets Act.

During the last court hearing of the case, the PTI chairman had requested the Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnai for an extension of his jail cell in Adiala Jail.

Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnai, who is presiding over the cipher case against the former prime minister in the prison, accepted his request and ordered to expand the cell of the PTI chairman. Following the court orders, Imran Khan’s jail cell has been expanded from its previous size of 35 feet to nearly 60 feet.

Imran Khan’s Indictment Differed

In today’s court hearing, former chairman Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were scheduled to be indicted. However, the judge has postponed their indictment for one week. The in-camera hearing was held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

The special court has adjourned the indictment of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case until October 23.

The cipher case revolves around a diplomatic document that was reportedly missing from Imran’s possession. The PTI alleges that this document contained a threat from the United States to remove Imran from office.

Imran Khan was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison in the Toshakhana graft case on August 5, 2023. Subsequently, he was transferred to Attock Jail, but the Islamabad High Court (IHC) later suspended his sentence. However, Imran remained in custody due to his judicial remand in the cipher case.

On September 25, the IHC granted Imran’s request to be moved from Attock District Jail to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Earlier on Monday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq rejected Imran Khan’s plea against his jail trial in the cipher case.
