ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz claimed on Tuesday that the residence of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Lahore’s Zaman Park had turned into a “training center for terrorists,” where activities included the manufacturing of petrol bombs and planning attacks against the state.

In a strongly worded statement, Maryam condemned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing the party of deliberately fostering disorder and undermining national interests.

She alleged that during a period when the PTI leader pretended to have leg injuries, they orchestrated the May 9 attacks, which targeted more than 200 military installations.

These assaults allegedly included setting fire to Air Force planes, damaging the Corps Commander’s residence, and vandalizing memorials dedicated to martyrs.

The chief minister further accused PTI of conspiring to cause economic instability by corresponding with the IMF, using secret codes, and showing disrespect to martyrs’ memorials, all as part of a larger agenda.

Calling for stringent legal action against PTI, Maryam emphasized the importance of upholding national security and interests in accordance with constitutional provisions.

She also criticized PTI for straining relations with friendly nations, making unfounded allegations regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and disrupting Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit in 2014 through a prolonged sit-in.

Maryam recounted past incidents where PTI allegedly attacked Parliament, PTV, and the Prime Minister’s residence, in addition to accusing them of violence against law enforcement officers and defacing the walls of the Supreme Court.
