Imran Reaches ATC Lahore to Seek Relief in Cases Linked to Zaman Park Clashes

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan reached a Lahore anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday in connection with his plea seeking exemption from court appearance in cases linked to Zaman Park clashes.

Earlier today, ATC Judge Abher Gul turned down Imran’s plea and summoned the former premier in person at 11am.

The judge observed that whoever comes to the court will get relief. He further noted that Imran’s surety bonds had not been submitted either.

The PTI chief’s lawyer told the court that the surety bonds will be submitted.

The court adjourned the hearing till 11am.

The PTI chief’s lawyer told the court that his client will appear in court by 1:30pm, and sought some time. However, the judge maintained that Imran will have to appear by 11am.

In his plea, the PTI chief had sought exemption from appearing before the court in connection to his petition seeking an extension in interim bail. Imran pleaded that although he was in Lahore but he could not appear in court amid security threats. He urged the court to grant him one-day exemption from appearance.

Pleas of Azhar, Chaudhry also rejected

The court also rejected the pleas of PTI leaders Hammad Azhar and Fawad Chaudhry seeking an extension in the interim bail in cases pertaining to arson and torture on policemen over non-appearance in the cases.

The two PTI leaders had filed petitions for exemption from appearance, arguing they have been investigated in the cases in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, PTI leaders Ejaz Chaudhry, Mahmud ur Rasheed and Mussarat Cheema appeared in court on expiry of their bails.
