LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan will appear before the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday after his dramatic release on Friday, seeking bail and details of cases registered against him from May 9 onwards.

Khan appears days after his arrest and brief detention sparked deadly violence.

Rangers took the ex-prime minister into custody from the Islamabad High Court on May 9 after he showed up in the court to seek bail in cases registered against him.

The arrest brought his PTI supporters onto the streets, with government buildings set on fire by protesters, roads blocked and destruction to property, including military offices.

On Friday, Imran was released on bail after his detention was declared unlawful by the Supreme Court.

The 70-year-old, still staggeringly famous after being ousted last April, was given bail in several pending cases by the IHC.

In his petition to the IHC, Imran said he had been nominated in many cases and could be arrested again.

“I am being targeted for political revenge,” Imran said in the petition submitted to the Lahore High Court. He has made the Punjab police chief and the Advocate General Punjab respondents in the case.

In the plea, Imran has sought information on the cases registered against him in the light of protests that broke out following his arrest.

The cricketer-turned-politician has been agitating for early elections after getting ousted in April 2022 in a no-confidence vote. Imran has shown no signs of backing down against the government. His party has also moved the Supreme Court seeking elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where his party was in power before the dissolution of the two provincial assemblies.

The general election is due no in October this year and the coalition parties in the government seem to be least interested in going to the polls owing to the plummeting public image as the coalition has failed to deliver with people facing an-all time high inflation.
