ISLAMABAD: In recent months, political tensions in the Middle East and South Asia have intensified speculation about military alliances and capabilities. Amid this backdrop, Indian media have launched a campaign that appears aimed at drawing Pakistan into the Middle Eastern crisis and straining its relations with Western countries.

The Hindustan Times has recently made a sensational claim that Pakistan is likely to supply Shaheen II missiles to Iran. This story is being seen as part of a broader effort to damage Pakistan’s relationship with the United States and entangle it further in regional conflicts.

This claim, however, lacks substantial evidence and negates the multi-faceted nature of regional security dynamics.

Iran, a country with an extensive missile arsenal, already possesses a significant stockpile of ballistic and cruise missiles capable of reaching beyond Israel.

Iran’s missile programs, including the Shahab, Sejjil, and Khorramshahr series, have developed ranges exceeding 2,000 kilometers, providing the nation with ample capability to target regional adversaries.

Pakistan’s missile systems, particularly the Shaheen series, are specifically designed to counter India.

Islamabad has consistently emphasized that its missile technology is intended for regional defense within South Asia rather than extending its reach into the Middle East.

The recent speculation about Pakistan supplying Shaheen II missiles to Iran amid heightened tensions following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh is unfounded and are attempts to fuel conflict in the region.

Pakistan Information Minister Attaullah Tarar categorically rejected such claims Islamabad plans to arm Tehran in the event of an escalation between Iran and Israel.
