New Delhi: India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Saturday that China had been very supportive during the country’s G-20 presidency in achieving various outcomes.
Jaishankar acknowledged China’s contribution to the talks during the summit.
“I think it is up to each country to decide at what level it will be represented. I don’t think one should read too much into it,” Jaishankar told a press conference after the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.
“I think it’s important what is the position that a country has taken, how much has that country contributed to the negotiations and the outcomes, and here I would say that all the members of the G20, including China, have been very supportive of the various outcomes and it’s only because the members have supported and they worked together,” he said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping skipped the summit along with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who sent Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The Chinese delegation was led by Premier Li Qiang.
The 18th G-20 Leaders’ Summit began in New Delhi on Saturday under the theme “One Country, One Family, One Future”.
The two-day summit is being held at the newly opened Pragati Maidan Conference Center in the Bharat Mandapam Cultural Corridor.
