ISLAMABAD: A recent report from Kashmir Media Service alleges that India has been treating the Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as its colony since October 27, 1947.
The report suggests that India forcibly landed troops in Srinagar, occupying the territory against the will of the Kashmiri people.
According to the report, the dream of colonizing IIOJK through military policies has long been harboured by organizations such as Hindutva Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Kashmiris are portrayed as victims of Indian state terrorism for over seven decades, with the Modi regime allegedly intensifying oppressive measures to stifle freedom in the region.
Since August 5, 2019, the report claims that India, under the influence of the Hindutva government, has systematically paved the way for settler colonialism by imposing anti-Kashmir laws. The redrawing of electoral boundaries is seen as part of the BJP’s game plan in IIOJK following the abrogation of articles 370 and 35A.
The BJP government is accused of creating colonial settlements in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, drawing parallels with Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land. The revocation of Article 370, which granted special status to occupied Kashmir, is cited as a move to remove barriers to colonizing the region.
The report maintains that India, in violation of United Nations resolutions, has changed laws to grant state subjects, lands, and settlement entry to non-Kashmiri people, altering the demography of IIOJK. The international community, including the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, European Union, and major world powers, is urged to play a role in implementing recommendations to address injustices in IIOJK.
The Modi-led Indian regime is accused of pursuing a systematic settler colonialism campaign, aiming to subjugate the Muslim majority, minimize its role, and garner political support for the BJP in the region. The report suggests that India’s actions have led to an atmosphere of hatred and animosity, threatening the well-bonded brotherhood of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Amid these allegations, the Indian occupation authorities are reportedly sealing properties owned by Kashmiris, including those dedicated to educational institutions offering free education to disadvantaged individuals. The report concludes by emphasizing that the only path to lasting peace in South Asia is granting the people of IIOJK their inalienable right to self-determination, as enshrined in relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
