ISLAMABAD: Indian cricketers will don jerseys featuring the official logo that includes the host country’s name, Pakistan, during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Wednesday.
The BCCI’s newly appointed secretary Devajit Saikia assured that the Indian team’s attire will showcase the tournament’s official logo, which prominently includes Pakistan’s name.
He emphasized adherence to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) protocols, stating, “We will comply with all ICC guidelines.”
Earlier reports suggested the BCCI was reluctant to include the host nation’s name on their jerseys, prompting a strong reaction from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which accused the BCCI of politicizing cricket. They expressed hope that the ICC would uphold support for Pakistan.
“Bringing politics into cricket is detrimental to the sport,” a PCB representative stated, pointing out BCCI’s previous reluctance to travel to Pakistan and concerns regarding their captain’s attendance at the opening ceremony.
In response, ICC sources clarified that displaying the tournament’s official logo, including the host nation’s name, is a non-negotiable requirement for all participating teams.
“Every team must feature the tournament logo on their kits—it’s an essential rule,” an ICC insider confirmed.
The eight-team tournament will take place from February 19 to March 9, featuring 15 matches across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match on February 19 and a highly anticipated encounter against India on February 23 in Dubai.
Notably, Pakistan is the only participating nation yet to officially announce its squad for this exciting tournament.
