ISLAMABAD: A 10-member Indian contingent, consisting of five players and an equal number of support staff on late Sunday, arrived in Islamabad for the Davis Cup World Group I Play-Off match against Pakistan.
This marks the Indian Davis Cup team’s first visit to Pakistan since 1964, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Pakistan Tennis Federation on Monday.
Apart from the players, the Indian squad includes two physiotherapists, a coach, a manager, and a coordinator.
The match is set to take place on the grass courts of the Sports Complex Islamabad on February 3-4. Initially, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) had sought a neutral venue for the tie, but this request was rejected by the International Tennis Federation tribunal.
The most recent encounter between the two nations occurred in 2019 in Kazakhstan. The Pakistan Tennis Federation has already announced its team for the tie, comprising Muzammil Murtaza, Aisam ul Haq Qureshi, Aqeel Khan, Muhammad Shoaib, and Barkatullah, with Muhammad Abid serving as the team’s non-playing captain.
