SRINAGAR: Hate crimes and Islamophobia against Muslims in India have risen significantly since the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party, led by Narendra Modi in 2014, causing deep concerns about the religious freedom of Muslims.

Kashmir Media Service reported that the Modi government has openly pursued controversial policies, often disregarding fundamental rights, including the religious freedom of Muslims. In the face of these policies, Muslims have been subject to systematic discrimination, prejudice, and violence, even in the presence of so-called constitutional protections.

The ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza has further unveiled the prevalence of Islamophobia and biases within India. Amidst the Zionist bombardment of Gaza, there has been a noticeable trend of Indian entities expressing support for Israel. The Indian media’s biased rhetoric against Palestinians and their advocates is a reflection of this concerning bias.

Indian Support for Israel Highlights Islamophobic Sentiments

Narendra Modi’s explicit backing of the Zionist regime in its conflict with Gaza serves as a warning to Arab nations with friendly relations with India. Under Modi’s Hindutva-led government, India’s strategic, military, and ideological ties with Israel continue to strengthen.

Indian Muslims have been subjected to hate speeches, physical assaults, and Islamophobia. Hindu extremist attacks against Muslims and other minority groups have escalated under the Modi administration. These hate speeches and crimes, driven by the Hindutva ideology, are used by RSS-BJP leaders to marginalize Muslims and other minorities.

The discriminatory measures against Muslims are clear indicators of the extent of Islamophobia in India. Unprovoked assaults on Muslims by Hindutva mobs have become all too common, and regrettably, the perpetrators often enjoy impunity.

The hate speeches by Hindutva leaders pose a grave threat to the lives of Muslims in India. It is imperative to hold Narendra Modi accountable for these injustices against Muslims and other minority communities.
