CHHATTISGARH: A newly-wed Indian man and his brother have died after a home theatre system they were presented with as a wedding gift exploded as soon as it was plugged into power.

According to the police, the gift was planted with explosives that went off as they plugged it into power. The groom died on the spot while his brother succumbed to injuries during treatment later.

Wedding gift was sent by bride’s ex-lover

The police said the bomb was allegedly sent by the bride’s ex-lover who was annoyed at her for marrying some another man. The accused has been identified as Sarju Markam from the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh and was arrested on Tuesday. He’s in custody and is yet to make any public statement.

Four other people, including an 18-month-boy, were injured in the incident, which took place on April 3 at the groom’s home in Kabirdham district in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Markam (33) was in a relationship with the 29 years old woman and was insisting that she become his second wife, the police said. But the woman’s family, according to the police, refused and arranged her marriage elsewhere. They said the blast was so strong that the walls and roof of the room also collapsed.
