BEIJING: China has firmly opposed a recent visit by Indian minister for interior to Arunachal Pradesh and views his activities in the region as violating China’s territorial sovereignty and it is not helpful to tranquility and peace in the border area.
Beijing-New Delhi
China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said in his regular press briefing that Southern Tibet is Beijing’s territory and the activities of Indian officials in the region overstep in territorial sovereignty of China.
India has renamed several places in what New Delhi regards as its eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, which Beijing views as part of its own territory.
Responding to a question on the trip by India’s interior minister Amit Shah in Arunachal Pradesh, the spokesperson said that the India’s official’s trip is not conducive to tranquility and peace of the border area.
The two sides have border issues in the region as China and India claim ownership of the poorly demarcated 2,100 miles long Line of Actual Control. The border runs along a disputed area and is frequently affected by the changing landscape, including lakes, rivers, and snowcaps.
Beijing has consistently affirmed its claim over the whole Arunachal Pradesh, referring to the area as South Tibet.
