KABUL: A Russian private jet carrying around six people is believed to have crashed in a remote part of Afghanistan, official said on Sunday. The crash took place Saturday in a mountainous region near Zebak district in Badakhshan province, regional spokesperson Zabihullah Amiri said. Local officials have confirmed the crash, raising concerns about the type of aircraft, the number of passengers onboard, and the circumstances leading to the event. Russian authorities said the plane belongs to Athletic Group LLC and a private individual. Details remain scarce regarding the precise nature of the aircraft and the total passenger count. The crash site’s mountainous and challenging terrain adds complexity to potential rescue and recovery efforts.
According to reports from Russian aviation the plane was a charter flight traveling from India, via Uzbekistan to Moscow. It disappeared from radar, local media reported.
Earlier, media reported, casualties are feared as an Indian plane crashed in Afghanistan on Sunday. According to local media report the plane crashed in northern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.
Zabihullah Amiri, an official of the provincial Department of Information and Culture also confirmed the crash and said that a team has been sent to the site in the Topkhana area of Kuran-wa-Munjan district.
Zabihullah Amiri told AFP that the plane has crashed but the location is not known yet. He confirmed the crash but did not give further details. He said that they were informed by local people in the morning.
