ISLAMABAD: Several young people were taken into custody by the Indian military during house raids and Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) in various parts of Indian Illegally-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Kashmir Media Service (KMS) reported that Indian troops and personnel of paramilitary and police, during their continued search operations and house raids, arrested dozens of youth in various areas of Kulgam, Rajouri, Poonch, Srinagar, Islamabad, Pulwama, Shopian, and Kathua districts.

The troops also carried out search operations in Poonch, Rajouri, and other areas to intimidate those seeking the right to self-determination.

In the meantime, Srinagar-based political experts, analysts, and members of civil society have expressed grave concern about the dire human rights situation in the region in conversations with media personnel.

They claim that the Kashmiris have been living in a desperate situation brought on by more than a million Indian troops and newly established New Delhi-controlled organizations like the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and State Implementing Agency (SIA).

“Human rights violations in the territory have seen an unprecedented rise since the Narendra Modi-led Hindutva government revoked IIOJK’s special status on August 5, 2019,” they claimed.

Kashmir has been transformed into a massive open-air prison by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its puppet government, depriving its citizens of even the most basic human rights. They said, “Common is tired of the daily cordons, searches, repression, and torture.”

Members of civil society and experts urged international organizations like the UN, EU, and the OIC to step up significantly to help the oppressed Kashmiri people. —APP
