ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir said that, due to India’s extremist ideology, minorities are not safe abroad, especially in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.
He was addressing a special session at the Margalla Dialogue 2024, organised by the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) on Friday.
He said that the rise of violent non-state actors and state-sponsored terrorism poses a major threat to global stability.
General Asim Munir also pointed out that, in recent years, the world has faced numerous challenges, including changes in global economies, militaries, and technology.
Expressing Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to fight terrorism, he said a comprehensive border management regime has been implemented to secure the country’s western borders.
Talking about India’s intolerant ideology, the Army Chief said even the expatriate Indian-origin minorities are not safe in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada due to New Delhi’s extremist mindset.
He also condemned the atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). General Syed Asim Munir stressed the resolution of the longstanding Kashmir dispute in line with the United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
On the issue of disinformation and fake news, he said that the absence of rules and regulations regarding freedom of expression is contributing to a decline in the moral values of societies.
He said Pakistan remains steadfast in its support for an independent Palestinian state and has consistently called for ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon. He said that Pakistan has also sent humanitarian aid to both regions.
The Army Chief also highlighted that Pakistan’s significant contributions to UN peace missions, with over 235,000 Pakistanis having participated, and 181 sacrificing their lives for global peace.
The Army Chief said Pakistan expects the Afghan Interim Government to ensure Afghan soil is not being used for terrorism while maintaining a comprehensive border management regime to secure its western borders.
The Army Chief said there have been immense changes in global economies, militaries, and technology. He said technology has played a vital role in spreading misinformation.
In conclusion, he underscored that Pakistan will not be part of any global conflict but will continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region and globally.
