BEIJING: A Chinese scholar said on Monday that India, traditionally seen as a regional hegemonic power, is now orchestrating a “proxy war” to support terrorism, destabilize neighboring states, and disrupt social stability and economic development.

The remarks were made by Cheng Xizhong, a Professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, during a panel discussion at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing on promoting multilateralism and international law.

Prof Cheng suggested that as India develops and strengthens its military power, it poses a greater threat to regional peace. He claimed that the increasing trend of terrorism in Pakistan is closely linked to a regional power secretly supporting terrorism, aiming to undermine Pakistan’s relationships with Iran and Afghanistan, disrupt economic and social development, and interfere with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor construction.

He urged the international community to abandon hegemony, cease interfering in internal affairs, and maintain international order based on principles such as mutual respect for sovereignty, non-aggression, non-interference, equality, and peaceful co-existence.

Prof Cheng highlighted the importance of following the principles of the United Nations Charter and called for an end to actions that destroy the normal international order.

In a world experiencing unprecedented changes, Prof Cheng emphasized the need to overcome crises and move towards lasting peace and prosperity. He stated that China advocates for equal and orderly world multi-polarization and inclusive economic globalization as a direction for long-term stability and common development.
