JAKARTA, Indonesia: Indonesia confirmed on Friday that two of its UN peacekeepers were injured by Israeli fire in south Lebanon, calling the attack a violation of international law.

The incident occurred when Israeli troops targeted Hezbollah militants near UN posts, leading to two Indonesian Blue Helmets being injured in the UN peacekeeping headquarters in Nakura.

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi condemned the attack, emphasizing that it violated International Humanitarian Law. The injured personnel are receiving medical care for their light injuries.

Indonesia, a firm supporter of Palestine and critic of Israel, has over 1,200 peacekeepers stationed with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which comprises around 10,000 personnel. Marsudi urged respect for UN territory and personnel in all situations.

Earlier, Israeli troops opened fire at three positions held by U.N. peacekeepers in southern Lebanon on Thursday, western media reported citing a U.N. source as saying.

According to the reports one of the locations fired at was UNIFIL’s base at Naqoura. There was no official comment from UNIFIL or immediate statement from the Israeli military.

Lebanese group Hezbollah earlier claimed to target an Israeli tank with guided missiles while it was trying to move in the border area of Ras al-Naqoura.
