LONDON: England Test captain Ben Stokes has been sidelined from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the preceding white-ball tour of India due to a hamstring injury sustained during the third Test against New Zealand in Hamilton earlier this month.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Sunday that the 33-year-old all-rounder would not be available for selection as he continues to recover.
“Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes was not considered for selection as he continues to be assessed following a left hamstring injury sustained,” the ECB stated.
Stokes’ absence is a significant blow for England as they gear up for a demanding 2025 schedule, which includes a five-match Test series against India in June and the Ashes tour in Australia during 2025-26. England’s management has chosen to prioritize his long-term recovery to prevent further injury.
Despite Stokes’ exclusion, the Champions Trophy squad boasts a strong lineup. Former Test captain Joe Root marks his return to the ODI setup for the first time since England’s 2023 World Cup campaign.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Mark Wood, who missed recent Test tours due to a right elbow injury, has also been included in both the India tour and Champions Trophy squads.

Matches will take place in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, with India’s fixtures scheduled to be played in the UAE.
