MUZAFFARABAD: The intellectuals of the Institute of Kashmir Studies (IIKS) have expressed great concern about India’s recent holding of the G-20 Conference in the disputed territory (IIOJK) in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-occupied Kashmir.

The acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), Altaf Hussain Wan, presided over a seminar titled “G-20 Conference & Disputed Status of Jammu and Kashmir” on Monday.

Others who attended the seminar included Professor Dr. Syed Nadeem Haider Bukhari, Dr. Raja Sajjad Latif, Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Commission, Chairman of the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) in Islamabad, and Dr. Summaira Shafique, Coordinator of the Institute of Kashmir and the seminar and expressed their views.

G-20 Conference in Sensitive Territory

The speakers unanimously expressed serious concern about India’s intention to hold the G-20 conference in this sensitive region. They emphasized the decision’s gross violation of international law and blatant contempt for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

According to the speakers, it served as a reminder of India’s obstinacy and constant denial of the real aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The speakers also criticized the countries that attended the G-20 conference in disputed territory, claiming that it illustrates the lack of international involvement in the Kashmir issue and the prevalent double standards exhibited by some members of global institutions.

The seminar speakers were convinced that the inconsistencies and selective approach cast doubt on the chances for peace in the region as well as globally. The seminar overwhelmingly emphasized the hardships of the Kashmiri people and their desire for self-determination and called for the international community’s immediate attention to the core issues facing Kashmir, as well as measures to resolve the lingering issue once and for all for permanent peace in the region.

During these discussions, the speakers asked the Pakistani government to take a firm and effective stance on the Kashmir issue. They emphasized the catastrophic implications of India’s ongoing stubbornness, its oppression, and terrorist act that have tormented the Kashmiri people for the past 75 years.

Participants urged the global community to unite in order to address the challenges confronting the Kashmiri people and to secure justice, peace, and the fulfillment of the Kashmiri people’s long-awaited aspirations.
