TEHRAN: Iran has alleged that Israel orchestrated twin sabotage attacks targeting gas pipelines in Safashahr and Borujen, disrupting supplies across several provinces last week.

The explosions, deemed acts of “sabotage and terrorism,” impacted regions including North Khorasan, Lorestan, and Zanjan, although no casualties were reported.

Oil Minister Javad Owji, addressing reporters after a cabinet meeting, attributed the incidents to Israel, labeling it as a foiled plot. This accusation underscores longstanding tensions between Iran and Israel, with the former considering the Palestinian cause integral to its foreign policy and maintaining a stance of non-recognition towards Israel.

Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, Iran and Israel have been engaged in a covert conflict, with Iran accusing Israel of perpetrating sabotage attacks and assassinations against its nuclear program.

In turn, the US and Israel allege Iran’s support for militant groups targeting American and Israeli interests across the Middle East.

The assertion by Iran adds to the complexities of regional dynamics, reflecting the ongoing geopolitical rivalry and proxy confrontations in the Middle East.
