TEHRAN: Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced on Thursday that 35 persons have been arrested in connection with the deadly attacks in the southeastern city of Kerman on January 3, as reported by Tasnim news agency.

According to a statement carried by the official IRNA news agency, the main suspect behind the bombings was identified as a Tajik national known as Abdollah Tajiki. The report revealed that Tajiki had entered the country in mid-December by crossing Iran’s southeast border and departed two days before the attack, having already assembled the explosive devices.

The report also provided details about one of the bombers, referred to by the family name Bozrov, who was 24 years old and held Tajik and Israeli nationality. Bozrov entered Iran through the southeastern border after undergoing months of training by the Islamic State (IS) in Afghanistan.

Authorities are still working to identify the second suicide-bomber involved in the attacks. In the IS claim of responsibility on January 4, the group named the two bombers as Omar Al-Mowahed and Seif-Allah Al-Mujahed.

The attack, which took place at a memorial for top commander Qassem Soleimani, resulted in nearly 100 casualties and left 284 people wounded. Tehran has vowed revenge for the incident, marking it as the bloodiest attack since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
