ISLAMABAD: US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has claimed that Iran is “very close to assembling six nuclear bombs,” saying Tehran would soon target Israel and the United States.

“They will kill Israel. They’ll come after us,” Graham told the Fox News.

The comments come at a time when the US and Iran are scheduled to hold crucial talks in Oman on Saturday.

“They have enough highly enriched uranium to make six bombs,” Graham said. “They will use it. Iran is very close to assembling six nuclear bombs.”

He presented no evidence to substantiate his claim and revealed no sources.

Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Michael Kurilla said on March 7 that Tehran has not made the decision to make nuclear weapons, according to TASS news agency.

Not pursuing

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told NBC News in mid-January that Tehran was not pursuing the goal of obtaining an atomic bomb.

On March 7, 2025, US President Donald Trump said that he had sent a message to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, proposing talks on the nuclear programme.

On Monday, it became known that the sides agreed to hold the first round of talks in Oman on April 12.

In February this year, US Senators Katie Britt and Lindsey Graham introduced a bipartisan, bicameral resolution to affirm that the United States, Israel, allies and partners should keep all options on the table to counter and contain the threat from a “nuclear-armed Iranian regime”.

“Iran’s continued pursuit of nuclear weapons poses a clear threat to the US, Israel, and our allies. Now more than ever, we must stand up to Iran and use every tool in our toolbox to address these threats,” said Senator Britt. “Peace is achieved through strength, and our resolution sends an important bipartisan message to Iran that the US will not tolerate Tehran’s aggression.”
