Iran, Egypt Discuss Situation in Gaza

CAIRO: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has discussed with Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iranian foreign minister, the current situation in the Gaza Strip, Arab media reported on Tuesday.

The two sides also discussed bilateral issues between the two nations. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said Foreign Minister Shoukry received a telephone call from Iranian Foreign Minister Abdollahian.

The two Ministers discussed visions and assessments regarding the deteriorating humanitarian and security situation in Gaza, as well as paths of action at the global level to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian crisis that the Palestinians are suffering from.

Egypt’s top diplomat Shoukry informed Amir Abdollahian of the outcomes of communications undertaken by Egypt about achieving a comprehensive truce and ensuring complete and sustainable access to humanitarian help for the Gaza Strip. He stressed the need to completely implement the provisions of the recent UNSC Resolution No. 2720 about the establishment of global mechanism to facilitate the entry and monitoring of humanitarian help into the Gaza Strip.

As Israel continued targeting civilian infrastructures, the Gaza health ministry on Tuesday reported that more than 20,915 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been killed in the besieged Gaza Strip since the launch of Israel’s military campaign on October 7.

More than 54,918 individuals have been wounded during more than 11 weeks of relentless Israeli bombardments in the Gaza Strip.

In the last 24 hours alone, the health ministry confirmed 241 more deaths and 382 new injuries, underlining the current severity of the situation in the Gaza Strip as Israel intensified its brutal military attacks.
