TEHRAN: Iran on Saturday warned that it and its “all Resistance Fronts,” a grouping of Iran and its regional allies, would confront Israel if it were to launch an attack on Lebanon. The statement from Iran’s mission to New York has amplified concerns of a broader regional conflict involving Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Tensions have heightened recently with near-daily exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah since the conflict in Gaza started in October last year. Both sides have escalated their rhetoric, with Israel’s military indicating that plans for a potential offensive in Lebanon have been authorized and verified. In response, Hezbollah vowed that no part of Israel would be spared in a full-scale conflict.

In a post on social media platform X, Iran’s mission denounced what it termed as Israel’s “psychological warfare” through propaganda suggesting intentions to attack Lebanon. The Iranian mission said it “deems as psychological warfare the Zionist regime’s propaganda about intending to attack Lebanon.”

However, the Iranian mission also cautioned that any significant military aggression by Israel would lead to a devastating war. The statement affirmed that all options, including full involvement of all Resistance Fronts, are under consideration. “Should it embark on full-scale military aggression, an obliterating war will ensue. All options, incl. the full involvement of all Resistance Fronts, are on the table.”

Besides the tensions with Hezbollah, Houthis in Yemen have also been active, launching repeated attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea area as a show of solidarity with Palestinians. Iran’s support extends to various groups across the region, shaping its role as a key player in Middle Eastern geopolitics.

Iran has maintained a policy of non-recognition towards Israel since the 1979 revolution that overthrew the country’s US-backed Shah.

Earlier this year, fears of a broader regional conflict spiked following an airstrike that destroyed Iran’s consulate in Damascus, resulting in the deaths of seven Revolutionary Guards, including two generals. In response, Iran conducted an unprecedented drone and missile attack on Israel on April 13-14. Subsequent reports of explosions in Iran’s Isfahan province were linked to alleged retaliatory strikes by Israel, as reported by US media outlets.

Tehran has downplayed the reported Israeli actions, emphasizing its preparedness to defend itself and its allies in the face of perceived threats.
