DUBAI: American prisoners held in Iran will take up to two months to get released, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said at a press conference on Monday.

“The relevant authorities have announced a specific timeframe, and this process will take a maximum of two months,” Kanaani said.

Earlier this month, Tehran and Washington reached an agreement to release five American citizens held in Iran while releasing $6 billion in Iranian assets frozen in South Korea.

Iranian assets frozen in South Korea were transferred to the Swiss bank last week for exchange and transfer to Iran, South Korean media reported on Monday.

Washington will also release some Iranians from US prisons, Iran said.

Iran has allowed four detained US citizens to be moved to house arrest from Tehran’s Evin prison, a lawyer for one of them said. A fifth were already under house arrest.
