DAMASCUS: Iranian-backed groups launched a rocket assault on the Koniko Gas Plant in eastern Syria, where US forces are stationed, according to local sources cited by Anadolu news agency.

The attack, originating from Iranian-supported factions positioned along the western bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor, targeted the gas plant, but there have been no reports of casualties or damage.

Additionally, Iranian-backed militias carried out an assault on the American base at the Al-Omar oil field in Syria on Thursday. Following a drone attack that resulted in the deaths of three American troops in Jordan late last month, the US initiated a series of airstrikes against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC)-Quds Force and Iran-backed militias in Iraq and Syria.

The Deir ez-Zor region east of the Euphrates River is under the control of the US-backed group, while the provincial capital and surrounding areas are governed by Syrian government and Iranian-supported factions.

Meanwhile, Syrian forces successfully repelled an Israeli attack targeting positions in the Damascus countryside, as reported by the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). The assault, which occurred early Saturday morning, was repelled by the army’s air defenses, resulting in the interception of several rockets. The losses were limited to material damage, according to a military source.

Furthermore, social media accounts linked to the Syrian regime reported Israeli airstrikes targeting Mezzeh Military Airport and the Sayyidah Zaynab neighborhood in Damascus on Friday.
