TEHRAN: Iranian media outlets on Tuesday reported hearing a loud explosion at the Shah Cheragh Shrine in Shiraz.
Videos have been circulating showing civilians fleeing the shrine, which was previously targeted by ISIS.
According to the ILNA news agency, people have taken shelter on rooftops because of fear. However, some official sources have denied the reports. ISNA quoted Ismail Qazlasefeli, deputy for political and security affairs of Fars province, stating, “No explosion occurred, and we are currently heading to the site with more details to follow.”
Tasnim News Agency, stated, “Contrary to claims on certain social media channels, there has been no explosion at Shah Cheragh Shrine, and such reports are false.”
Meanwhile, contradictory reports and denials regarding the alleged explosion at Shah Cheragh Shrine highlight tensions and the immediate dissemination of information in such situations. The shrine has a history of violence, underscoring concerns over public safety and security in the region.
In November 2022, an armed attack rocked the Shah Cheragh Shrine in Shiraz, resulting in 13 deaths and 25 injuries, according to official sources in Iran.
Daesh claimed responsibility for this attack.
