TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will participate in the upcoming BRICS summit in Russia, said Tehran’s ambassador in Moscow as saying on Sunday.
The development comes amid tensions between Iran and the West over military cooperation with Russia.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday said that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran and was expected to use them in Ukraine within weeks. He added cooperation between Moscow and Tehran threatened the security of Europe.
The United States, Britain, France and Germany on Tuesday imposed new sanctions on Iran, including measures against its national airline Iran Air.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi had said that Tehran did not deliver any ballistic missiles to Russia and that sanctions placed by the U.S. and the three European states against Iran were not a solution.
Ambassador of Iran in Russia Kazem Jalali on Sunday confirmed that Pezeshkian will attend the summit of the BRICS group of major emerging economies, slated to be held in Kazan, Russia from October 22 to 24.
