Iran’s Ambassador Calls on Chairman FBR

ISLAMABAD: Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, on Wednesday, called on the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue, Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, at FBR headquarters in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues pertaining to customs, cross-border trade, and management for a smooth flow of bilateral trade between the two nations. They agreed to remove the hurdles in the barter trade for increased economic activities between the two neighbors.

The two sides also agreed on the early operationalization of the gate at the Rimdan-Gabd crossing point to facilitate traders and enhance cross-border trade.

The Iranian envoy said that the expansion of the parking area on the Taftan side would facilitate Iranian trucks. He also requested that the free movement of Iranian trucks be allowed at least up till Quetta, Balochistan.

Chairman FBR apprised him of the legal challenges in this regard. However, he assured him to look into the issue.

Pakistan-Iran Trade Data Sharing

It was also agreed that both sides will work on sharing trade-related data digitally through the Electronic Data Interchange system.

The Iranian diplomat also invited a delegation comprising officers of Pakistan Customs and other relevant departments to Iran for a meeting to solve all border-related problems between the two brotherly countries.
