RIYADH: Iran’s embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) opened its gates on Wednesday for the first time in 7 years as the resumption of complete diplomatic relations between the two nations gathered pace.
The embassy opened hours after the Foreign Ministry of Iran said a technical delegation had arrived in Saudi Arabia to oversee the work.

The development is the latest product of a historic Beijing-brokered agreement in March between Saudi Arabia and Iran to restore diplomatic ties and resume previous deals on trade, security, and investment.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that as per the implementation of the deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran on the restoration of diplomatic activities … a technical delegation of Iran arrived in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh on Wednesday and was received by Saudi officials.
The spokesperson added that the delegation will take all the necessary measures to reopen the diplomatic mission in Riyadh, the consulate general in Jeddah, and the activities of Iran’s permanent envoy in the OIC.
Both nations’ foreign ministers also held a meeting in Beijing in the current month for the first formal gathering of their top officials. A Saudi Arabia technical delegation also met Iran’s chief of protocol in Tehran last week and is due to visit Mashhad on Thursday.
The recent development took place as a three days operation to swap around 900 prisoners will begin on Friday.
