TEHRAN: Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars on Wednesday reported that the helicopter of the country’s late President Ebrahim Raisi crashed in May due to harsh weather.
The news agency reported the aircraft failed to handle the weight it was carrying, citing a security source informed of the final investigation results.
Iran’s military in a preliminary report said that no evidence of attack or foul play had been found so far during a probe into the crash.
“The investigation in the case of Ayatollah Raisi’s helicopter crash has been completed … there is complete certainty that what happened was an accident,” the security source who was not named told Fars news agency.
The source added the weather conditions were not suitable and the helicopter was unable to handle the weight, leading to it crashing into a mountainous terrain.
The investigations show that the helicopter was carrying two individuals more than its capacity that security protocols state.
Raisi was killed in May in a crash in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border.
