BAGHDAD, Iraq: Two Iraqi delegations will visit Turkmenistan and Qatar to discuss possible deals to import gas, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Iraqi Minister for Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel told members of the parliamentary committee on electricity and energy Sunday that two delegations will visit Qatar and Turkmenistan to discuss possible gas deals.

The Press Office for the Iraqi parliament said in a statement that the meeting was held to discuss the ministry’s plans to provide electricity during the summer. The committee head stressed the need to continue efforts to provide energy to citizens, particularly with the rise in temperatures during the summer season.

The Electricity Minister explained that the reason for the decrease in electricity supply is the suspension of gas imports from Iran, which led to the loss of 6,000 megawatts electricity the plants were able to generate if the required fuel was available.

Fadel explained that a meeting was held with the Ministry of Oil to reach effective solutions to the power crisis and supply power plants with the required fuel.

The Iraqi official further said that two delegations would visit Qatar and Turkmenistan to discuss possible deals to import gas from the two countries to have enough fuel to operate power plants.
