TEHRAN, Iran: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard forces have dismantled an armed bandit group in the northwest region of the country, according to state TV reports on Tuesday. The operation, carried out by the ground forces of the IRGC in West Azerbaijan province, targeted a counter-revolutionary terrorist team attempting to enter Iran through its northwestern borders.

The operation resulted in several members of the group being killed or wounded, with their equipment confiscated by the IRGC. The Revolutionary Guard issued a strong warning that actions against Iran’s security and territorial integrity will be met with a decisive response.

The specific location of the operation was not disclosed. West Azerbaijan province borders Turkiye and Iraq and has experienced intermittent clashes between Iranian forces and Kurdish separatists, as well as militants linked to the extremist Daesh group. In 2022, Iran’s intelligence forces dismantled a significant spy network linked to Israel, allegedly attempting to conduct sabotage in the country.
