ISLAMABAD: A magistrate court in Islamabad on Sunday approved a one-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.
Gandapur, a former federal minister, was detained from outside the Peshawar High Court’s D.I. Khan bench on Thursday in a case pertaining to an audio tape of him purportedly threatening authorities and the police against the possible arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan.
In the audio, he had allegedly threatened to siege Islamabad if the former premier is arrested.
During the hearing today, the prosecutor sought a five-day physical remand of Gandapur which was rejected by the magistrate who approved a one-day remand of the PTI leader.
An anti-terrorism court in DI Khan had set April 11 (Tuesday) for Ali Amin Gandapur’s indictment in a 10-year-old suicide attack case. The Islamabad police shifted Gandapur from the central jail in DI Khan to the federal capital on Saturday after a judicial magistrate ordered his handing over to the ICT police.
PTI protest in DI Khan
In protest against PTI leader’s arrest and transfer to Islamabad, several party workers on Saturday blocked the road by burning tyres near D.I. Khan’s Town Hall.
The local police detained five PTI workers for violating Section 144 – an emergency law which prohibits gatherings.
