ISLAMABAD: A trial court in Islamabad has green-lighted the initiation of criminal proceedings against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan in Tosha Khana case and has directed him to appear before the court on January 9.

Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal gave the verdict on a petition filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking criminal proceedings against the PTI chief in the Toshakhana case.

ECP’s verdict on Tosha Khana

In October this year, the ECP, in a unanimous verdict, disqualified the PTI chief, declaring him guilty of committing corrupt practices and ruling that Khan was no more a member of the National Assembly.

The ECP stated that Khan had submitted a false affidavit and was found involved in corrupt practices under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution.
