ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) Monday handed human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir into police custody on a three-day physical remand.

Judge Abu-al-Hasnaat Muhammad Zulqarnain hear the case. The prosecution sought a 10-day remand of the accused on the charges of sedition and intimidation. Both were booked by Islamabad police after they delivered controversial speeches at a recent PTM rally on the outskirts of the federal capital.

Subsequently, the police arrested Wazir and Imaan in the wee hours of Sunday and secured their remand from a local court in Islamabad the same day. They were produced in the anti-terrorism court earlier today.

‘Imaan goes on hunger strike’

On arrival at the Islamabad Judicial Complex, Imaan hugged her mother and former PTI MNA, Shireen Mazari while Wazir was brought to the court with his face covered.

“I have gone on hunger strike,” Imaan told her mother, adding that no one asked her any questions during the investigation. During the hearing, Imaan’s lawyer told the court that the police have not recovered anything from his client yet. He contended that the human rights lawyer presented no risk of escape. “She is here,” the lawyer argued. However, the court handed them into police custody for three days.
