ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has welcomed the additional provisional steps by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel to immediately stop its military operation in Rafah in conformity with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and the worsening deteriorating humanitarian conditions faced by civilian population.
Islamabad supports the petition filed by South Africa before the world court against Israel under the 1948 Genocide Convention, in follow up to which the ICJ has announced additional provisional steps, the Foreign Office said in a statement.
As required by the latest order of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Israeli occupation officials should keep the Rafah crossing open for unhindered provision of humanitarian help, and ensure unimpeded access to Gaza of any commission of probe, fact-finding mission or other probe body mandated by the United Nations (UN) to probe accusations of genocide.
Pakistan has demanded immediate and unconditional executions of the latest orders of the court as well as the last orders of 26 January and 28 March, the statement maintained.
Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the inalienable right to self-determination of the people of Palestine for a viable, secure, contiguous and sovereign State of Palestine on the ground of the pre-1967 borders and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital city, the foreign office further said.
