KABUL: The Islamic State claimed responsibility for a suicide attack in Kabul that killed six people and injured several others a day earlier.

The group’s Amaq media wing announced via Telegram that the attacker targeted the Taliban government’s prosecution service as employees were leaving their shifts.

Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran reported on Monday night that the bombing occurred on the southern outskirts of the Afghan capital, resulting in six deaths and 13 injuries.

However, the Islamic State’s media wing reported a higher toll, claiming that “more than 45” people were either killed or wounded. The group stated that the attack was carried out “to avenge Muslims held in Taliban prisons.”

Despite a general decrease in violence since the Taliban’s takeover in 2021, the Islamic State’s regional chapter has continued to target foreigners, civilians, and Taliban officials with frequent attacks.
