ISRA University Held Seminar on World TB Day

HYDERABAD: ISRA University organized a seminar on the occasion of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day here in Hyderabad on Friday.

Director of ISRA Islamic Foundation Professor Dr. Hameedullah Kazi was the special guest, while Dr. Badar Munir from World Health Organization (WHO) Sindh attended the seminar as honorary guest. The event was arranged by the Community Medicine Department of the University.

Addressing the seminar, Dr. Hameedullah Kazi welcomed the collaboration with the Sindh health department and also underlined the diagnostic facilities for TB at the ISRA welfare hospital.

He said that the ISRA welfare hospital was providing free treatment services to deserving patients and people in backward areas.

The speakers stressed the need for more work on malaria and TB, expressing hope that Pakistan will soon control these diseases. They cited a report from the WHO stating that malaria and TB were extremely dangerous diseases, causing more than 4,000 precious lives to be lost daily and nearly yen million new cases reported annually.

Seminar highlights malaria rapid spread

The experts also highlighted the rapid spread of malaria.

Professor Hussain Bux Kolaachi, Chairperson of the community medicine department, expressed concern about the alarming rate of new TB cases in Pakistan.

Pulmonologist Dr. Saima Siraj Jatoi advised patients experiencing persistent cough for more than 3 weeks to consult a doctor immediately without delay in diagnosis.

On this occasion, ISRA University students presented their presentations and posters on TB and malaria.
