JERUSALEM: Israel’s military said Wednesday it had obtained information that indicated a Hezbollah explosive charge caused the blast that wounded UN peacekeepers in Lebanon last week. The incident occurred in south Lebanon, an area where Israel and Hezbollah frequently engage in cross-border skirmishes.
According to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Avichay Adraee, information gathered by the army indicates that the explosion, which wounded three military observers and a translator on March 30, was triggered by an explosive charge planted by Hezbollah in the area. Adraee emphasized that the blast occurred after a UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) patrol passed over the concealed charge.
The injured military observers hailed from Australia, Chile, and Norway, while the translator was Lebanese. They were conducting a patrol near the “Blue Line,” the boundary demarcated by the United Nations between Israel and Lebanon.
Reports from Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency indicated that an Israeli drone was sighted in the Rmeish area of southern Lebanon, where the incident occurred. The ongoing cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah have intensified since October, resulting in several casualties on both sides.
