DAMASCUS: Israel carried out strikes near Damascus on Wednesday, Syrian stated media reported.
The latest reported strike came as regional tensions are soaring since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
Syrian state television reported that the country’s air defenses responded to an Israeli strike in the vicinity of Damascus and shot down most of the missiles.
According to the reported the Syrian capital heard loud noises followed by the sirens of ambulances.
Since Syria’s civil war started in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of air strikes against its northern neighbor, primarily attacking pro-Iran forces, including Lebanese Hamas ally Hezbollah and the Syrian army.
The strikes have increased during the almost five-month war between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.
Israel hardly make comments on such strikes has repeatedly said it will not permit Iran to increase its presence in Syria.
