New York: Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has said that there are significant grounds to believe that Israel is engaging in genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
This announcement was made during her presentation of her latest report, ‘Anatomy of a Genocide’, at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Albanese highlighted three specific acts that align with the definition of genocide as per international law, including causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately imposing conditions of life intended to bring about physical destruction, and implementing measures to prevent birth within the group.
Meanwhile, the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, presented a report detailing the escalation of Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, condemning the policies that facilitate expansion and the increase in violence against Palestinians by Israeli settlers.
