BEIRUT: The Israeli army on Thursday intensified attacks on southern Lebanon amid increasing tensions with the Hezbollah group.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, several airstrikes were reported in the border towns of Naqoura, Ayta al-Shaab, Kfarshouba and Khiyam. Israeli artillery shelling also targeted Markaba, Ramiya, and Labbouneh in southern Lebanon.

No information was yet available about damage or casualties. Meanwhile, Hezbollah said that its fighters had targeted the Israeli army’s Biranit barracks with anti-tank shells in northern Israel.

Fears of a full-fledged war between Israel and Hezbollah have increased amid an exchange of cross-border attacks, especially after the July 30 killing of senior Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr in Beirut.

Israel’s war on Gaza, now in its 321st day, has killed at least 40,265 Palestinians mostly women and children and injured over 92,981 others.
