JENIN: Palestinian medics have said that five people were killed in a strike targeting a vehicle in the occupied West Bank area of Tubas, as the Israeli army said it conducted raids. In a statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society confirmed that five people were killed and one seriously injured in a strike on a vehicle in Tubas.

The Israeli army said its aircraft carried out three targeted attacks in the Tubas area. AFP reported that a large number of Israeli forces stormed the Faraa refugee camp in Tubas, where blasts were heard.  Israel launched a massive operation across the northern West Bank on August 28, fighting Palestinians and leaving widespread devastation.

Israel has killed over 30 Palestinians in the attack, the territory’s health officials say, including children. Al Jazeera reported that one Israeli soldier was also killed in Jenin, where the majority of the Palestinian fatalities have taken place.

Israel forces have occupied the West Bank since 1967 and the army has ramped up its deadly attacks and raids in the territory since its war in Gaza against Hamas erupted on Oct. 7.

The development takes place as the United Nations on Wednesday appreciated the progress on the polio vaccination drive and called for a permanent truce in Gaza to ease the humanitarian suffering of Palestinians as the region continues to suffer from the prolonged war.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said that about 187,000 children in central Gaza had received vaccinations as part of an emergency campaign.

Since October 7, more than 40,861 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been killed in the current relentless Israeli bombardment campaign in the Gaza Strip, the territory’s health ministry said.
