TEL AVIV: The Israeli military on Sunday ordered the evacuation of the Baalbek region in eastern Lebanon, warning residents that it was ready to launch strikes there and in nearby Douris.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also advised residents of nearby Douris to evacuate as tensions continue to rise along the Israel-Lebanon border.
In a post on X, IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee ordered the people of Baalbek and Douris to leave the area. “You are currently located near the facilities and assets associated with Hezbollah, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will be targeting shortly,” Adraee’s message read.
The IDF’s warning came as its Home Front Command activated emergency sirens across Israel’s northern border region. According to military reports, dozens of projectiles have been fired from Lebanon into Israel since Sunday morning.
The Israeli military said that the air force intercepted some of these projectiles, and others fell in open areas, causing no reported injuries. On Thursday, a rocket attack struck the Israeli town of Metula, killing seven people.
Israel has intensified military operations across Lebanon since late September, killing more than 1,900 people in Lebanon, according to health ministry figures. The IDF, meanwhile, reports that 38 of its soldiers have been killed in the Lebanese campaign since the start of its ground operations on September 30.
