JERUSALEM: A clash occurred between Israeli police personnel and protesters during protest demonstrations against the extremist government’s controversial judicial reforms, BBC reported on Tuesday.
As many as 71 protesters have been arrested by the police in Israel. The recent protests and clashes occurred following a bill to curtail the power of the Supreme Court to review ministers’ verdicts approved its first reading in the country’s parliament on Monday night.

Western media reports said the controversial reforms have sparked months of mass demonstrations in Israel. The protests began early on Tuesday morning, as the protest demonstrators thumping drums, and chanting slogans blocked main roads across Israel.
In Tel Aviv, a video showed a police horse hitting a protester to the ground, while further in Herzliya, protester demonstrators burnt tyres and blocked the roads.
Thousands of demonstrators met on Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport later on Tuesday, packing into a protest area at Terminal 3, BBC reported.
Protests have also been called in front of the president’s house in Jerusalem, the Israel Ministry of Defence in Tel Aviv, and the United States embassy’s branch office in the city.
The controversial reforms have deeply divided Israel, with mass protests since the extremist government revealed the reforms at the start of the year.
Significantly, hundreds of soldiers have also threatened to stop performing their duty in protest at the controversial reforms.
