DAMASCUS, Syria: Early Sunday, Israeli air strikes targeted military sites and a residential building in Damascus, resulting in the death of one Syrian soldier and injuries to three others, according to the Syrian army. The attacks were carried out from the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights.

Israel has long conducted strikes against Iran-linked targets in Syria, where Tehran has supported President Bashar Assad since the civil war began in 2011. These attacks have intensified following the outbreak of the Gaza war in October.

The latest strikes hit military sites in southern Syria and a residential building in the Kafar Souseh area of Damascus. The Syrian army stated that their air defence systems managed to intercept many of the missiles despite their density.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) reported that the strikes were a response to the launch of two drones from Syria toward Eilat, which were intercepted. The IDF confirmed hitting a Syrian military command center, infrastructure sites, and terror targets used by the Syrian military’s Aerial Defence Unit.
