TEL AVIV: The Israeli army reported on Monday that two of its commandos were killed and three others seriously injured in clashes in the southern Gaza Strip.
This incident adds to the toll of Israeli troops killed since the conflict began on October 7, which now stands at 566, including 229 casualties since the commencement of the ground operation later in the month.
According to Israeli officials, more than 28,000 people in the Gaza Strip have been killed since last year’s Hamas incursion, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Israelis. The military campaign has also caused extensive destruction, displacement, and dire conditions conducive to famine.
In late 2023, South Africa lodged a case with the International Court of Justice (ICJ), alleging that Israel had violated its commitments under the 1948 Genocide Convention.
The ICJ issued an interim ruling in January, deeming South Africa’s claims to be plausible. As a result, the court ordered provisional measures for the Israeli government to refrain from genocidal acts and to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
It’s important to note that these developments reflect the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with both sides experiencing casualties and suffering.
