RAMALLAH: Israeli forces have arrested 47 more innocent Palestinians in overnight operations across the occupied West Bank, according to the Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs. The arrests were accompanied by allegations of torture, severe beatings, threats to detainees and their families, as well as house vandalism, the commission stated on Telegram.
Since October 7, a total of 2,800 innocent Palestinians have been arrested, marking a significant escalation in Israeli brutal actions within the occupied Palestinian territories. The situation further intensified with Israeli forces launching a major raid on Jenin in the West Bank overnight, resulting in at least three fatalities, according to Palestinian officials. Meanwhile, the Israeli army killed five Palestinians in a drone strike in the Jenin refugee camp.
The raid, on Friday, involved the deployment of approximately 80 military vehicles into the city of Jenin. Palestinian homes were raided, and several innocent Palestinian civilians were arrested. Four hospitals, including the Ibn Sina Hospital, were surrounded by Israeli soldiers during the operation.
Emergency services faced hindrances in reaching the injured, raising concerns about the potential risk to lives, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
Israel Accused of Maximizing Expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza
Meanwhile, renowned British-Palestinian surgeon Ghassan Abu Sitta, currently in Gaza, accused Israel of aiming to “maximize the expulsion of Palestinians” amid the ongoing conflict. Abu Sitta, specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery, shared his perspective on the 42nd day of Israel’s invasion of Gaza, which started on October 7.
In addition to the escalating tensions, communication breakdowns were reported in Gaza, with Palestinian media in the West Bank highlighting difficulties in reaching residents of the coastal Strip. The interruption of internet connections raised concerns about the safety of civilians and the delivery of life-saving assistance, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
