ISLAMABAD: Gaza’s civil defence agency said on Wednesday that at least 15 people were killed when an overnight Israeli air strike targeted a house in Jabalia, Gaza.
AFP cited civil defence agency’s spokesman Mahmud Bassal as saying that 15 people were “martyred” and more than 20 were wounded in this massacre after midnight in a house where displaced people were living in the town of Jabalia.
Solidarity with Gaza
The development takes place as the world welcomes the new year and in many parts of the world people express solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Al-Jazeera reported that hundreds of people gathered in the driving snow in Sweden’s Stockholm on New Year’s Eve in a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine and to call for Israel to end its war on Gaza.
Turkish media also reported that hundreds of thousands gathered at Istanbul’s Galata Bridge on New Year’s Day to express solidarity with the people of Palestine.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICJ) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Healthcare near collapse
A United Nations report published on Tuesday found that Israeli strikes on and near hospitals in the Gaza Strip had left healthcare in the Palestinian territory nearing total collapse, according to AFP.
The report by the UN Human Rights Office said such strikes raised grave concerns about Israel’s compliance with international law, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
